Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed into law a measure granting Philippine citizenship to Russian figure skater Aleksandr Sergeyevich Korovin. Republic Act No. 12115, signed on December 20, 2024, aims to bolster the Philippines' chances of competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Korovin, a renowned figure skater, has partnered with Filipina skater Isabella Gamez, and their partnership is seen as a promising contender for the Philippines in the pairs figure skating category at the upcoming Winter Games.

The law grants Korovin all the rights, privileges, and prerogatives of a Filipino citizen, while also imposing upon him the corresponding duties and obligations. This move is expected to pave the way for Korovin to represent the Philippines in international competitions, including the prestigious Winter Olympics.

The Philippine Skating Union has expressed enthusiasm for Korovin's naturalization, viewing it as a significant step towards enhancing the country's performance in winter sports on the global stage.
