The Philippine Navy will receive RV Melville, a research vessel from the United States. This was confirmed in a post on RV Melvilles' Twitter account managed by the vessel's American crew.
"Today I have the pleasure of meeting my new crew...Philippine Navy!" said in the post dated March 22 with photo of Filipino crew.
Melville is the oldest active vessel research fleet, collectively known as the University-National Oceanographic Laboratory System(UNOLS).
US President Barack Obama announced that the US is donating the USCGC Boutwell to Philippines along with the research vessel RV Melville, during the APEC leaders summit meeting in the Philippines last November 17.
