The host country Russia celebrated as they pummel Saudi Arabia 5-0 in FIFA World Cup opening. That was inspired by the home crowd in the opening match, Russia ended a 16-year wait for victory. Denis Cheryshev scored two goals on Thursday to lead the host nation over Saudi Arabia in Group A with President Vladimir Putin watching together with Saudi crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the VIP box.
Cheryshev became the first to come off the bench to score, meaning he became the first sub to score two in an opener. Dzyuba was also a sub i this one and scored, as the team got three goals off the bench.
