At the "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda" on Tuesday, the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 said that it wasn't true that she and her ex-boyfriend Neil had broke up because of her beauty pageant journey.
"He proposed to me, and I was so young at that time. I wasn't ready," Rabiya said.
Added that she had some dreams for herself and her family to fulfill which made her decision to back off from the proposal.
"During that time, he was ready to settle na because feeling niya, okay na siya sa buhay. Pero ako, i wanna aspire to be more, so doon kami nagkaroon ng conflict," Rabiya recalled.
"Galing din ako sa walang-wala, so when I won Miss Universe, sabi ko ito na 'yung time ko para makapag ipon, para mabilihan ko 'yung nanay ko ng bahay, para makapagpatuloy ko man kung gusto pa ng kapatid ko makapag-aral,' she added.
However, a social media user appeared to be the sister of Salvacion responds to Mateo's answer during an interview with Abunda.
"Nako! Ate. There's always an option. To answer a question truthfully or to spill the tea with a fib."
"You never rejected my brother's proposal. In fact, you accepted it and wore the ring before your pageant started internationally. Something happened along the way and you opted to commit a sin during the pageant and you have to own up to that," she said.
"You're lucky na mas gustong manahimik ng kapatid ko kesa patulan ang mga scripted na sagot mo," it added.
Mateo finished at top 21 in her Miss Universe tilt. She also admitted in her past interview with Abunda that "all is not well between her and Neil. Without giving more details about their current status "it's a complicated situation."
Mateo, meanwhile, appeared to have rekindled her relationship with fellow actor Jeric Gonzales after their split in June 2022.
