Ph Navy to receive 3 missile-armed attack vessels and 4 AAVs this year

The Philippine Navy is expecting additional assets this year with the commissioning of four amphibious assault vehicles (AAVs) and three missile armed multi-purpose attack craft (MPAC). The brand new multi-purpose attack craft (MPAC) that was activated last May 22 will be equipped with its first-ever Israeli made missile system.

"Four AAVs along with the three MPACs will be commissioned into service this coming September 16," Navy chief Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad said in a press briefing.

The Navy had been commissioned the first delivery of the four AAvs, while the second batch of AAVs arrived in August has successfully completed their Technical Inspection and Acceptance.

Meanwhile, MPAC will be fitted with Rafael Advanced Defense System Spike-ER (extended range) missile system. The system is an anti-ship mode or can engage surface vessels targets which capable of penetrating 1,000 mm thickness of homogeneous armor and has a maximum range of five miles.
