The TMZ report said the 39-year-old Gaspard told rescuers to save his son first before he disappeared about 50 yards from shore, Police said.

Gaspard and his son were among a group of swimmers who got caught in a strong sea current on Tuesday, May 19, as lifeguards rushed to their rescue.

"When last seen by the lifeguard, a wave had crashed over Mr. Shad Gaspard and he was swept out to sea," police said. "He was last seen wearing black and gray shorts and has tattoos on his right shoulder and left chest."

At a separate report from Fox News, Deputy Trina Schrader told that "At approximately 3:45 pm, L.A. County Lifeguards did see a black male in his 30s in distress. They went to try to rescue him."

"However, he went under before they could rescue him and a search effort was immediately put underway and a search effort has been underway ever since," she added.

Gaspard is a member of the wrestling team Cryme Tyme with fellow WWE star JTG, which debuted in 2006. The entire wrestling world was in shock over the news.
