Cynthia Barker: UK's first Filipino mayor passes away

 Cynthia Barker, 58, a Filipino mayor of Hertsmere in Hertfordshire, England, has died, September 14, her brother confirmed.





"It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of The Worshipful Hertsmere Mayor Councillor Cynthia Barker following a bout of serious illness,” Gene Alcantara said, brother of Barker, in a Facebook post. 


"We will be issuing further information in due course, but may we ask please to respect the family’s privacy at this very difficult time," Alcantara added in a Facebook post. According to Alcantara the cause was due to a serious illness, but not specified.

Cynthia Alcantara Barker, is a full-blood Filipino who hails from San Pablo City in Laguna has been making history once again after she was elected as mayor of Hertsmere in Hertfordshire, England.


She lived in Hetsmere for 29 years, where she joined her family in mid '80s. Her mother was first to arrive in '70s as an OFW.
