FIRE IN THAILAND NIGHTCLUB KILLS AT LEAST 14 PEOPLE, SEVERAL INJURED

A huge fire broke out in a nightclub in Chonburi province in Thailand last night, August 5. About 14 people were declared dead and 35 were injured in said fire.

Around 1 a.m. at the Mountain B nightclub, a one-story building in the Sattahip district of Chonburi province, a fire started burning inside.

Firefighters had a hard time putting out the fire. It took more than two hours before it was declared fire out.

According to Thailand police officers who responded to the fire, the fire broke out during a live music performance.

Most of the dead were Thai nationals including a 17-year-old who was the youngest of the dead.

In response, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered relevant agencies to offer assistance to families of the victims and those injured. He has also ordered a probe into the legal and safety status of nightclubs across the country.

According to Raphon Namtham, a local musician, even though he was not around during the fire incident, he spoke about the appearance of the clubhouse. The clubhouse has started two months ago and very popular with the Thai locals.

He said, it has only one entrance and exit. The back part of the club was closed when the live performance started. He added, even the ceiling was lined with acoustic panels which were highly inflammable.

The investigation of the said incident is still ongoing.
