TRANS STUDENT IN LEYTE SHARES APPRECIATION POST AFTER A SCHOOL ALLOWS HER TO WEAR FEMALE UNIFORM

Sessy Maravillo, 17, a senior high school transwoman student went viral on social media after she issued appreciation post for allowing her to wear uniform of her choice.

The Grade 12 student took to Facebook to share photos of herself with school's female uniform in maroon skirt paired with the white blouse and necktie, thanks to Leyte National High School.

"I'm very much blessed and grateful at the same time for being in a school that totally accepts lgbtqia+ member of the society. I feel the strong and warm support of my school especially the love of my teachers and their strong regard towards the gender that I have," said Sessy.

While there are some school firmly requires the strict implementation of wearing of uniforms based on gender identity, she added that it "gives me (her) so much comfort and wings" as member of LGBTQ+ community.

Sessy also hope that other schools in the country would also adopt gender-neutral uniforms, allowing transgender students to wear uniforms that align with their gender identity.

She believes that if the society wants to practice inclusivity, therefore our society must allow the freedom of choice.

This is not the first time that a public school has granted trans students the freedom to choose in wearing their uniform.

Diana Montecarlo from the University of Iloilo is also one of the trans students who availed such kind of privilege from her school.

"Thank you UI for accepting and letting me wear female uniform. I always feel the love and support in this school," wrote Diana.
