CAMERA CAPTURE A SUSPENSION BRIDGE COLLAPSES IN INDIA

Just week after its repair, a suspension bridge in India's western state Gujarat collapsed leaving at least 140 people died and several others still went missing.

The incident happened the time people are celebrating the Diwali festival, official said. The 230m bridge on the Machcu river was built during British rule in the 19th Century.

Videos circulating across the social media platforms showed people swimming to a portion of a bridge suspended in the water, with dozens of them struggling to cling to the broken edge as they waited for the rescue.

Rescuers scrambled for search and rescue operations as they pulled the victims from the water.

"Many children were enjoying holidays for Diwali and they came here as tourists," an eyewitness told Reuters.

"All of them fell one on top of another. The bridge collapsed due to overloading."
