This art from a Filipino artist is literally created by his own blood.
52-year-old Elito Circa has produces art that took social media by storm because of his unusual choice of medium. While he received both praise and criticism because of his way to creating his art, Circa was determined to create the largest "blood painting" in 2023.
He explored different mediums, including tomatoes, but it was when he scraped himself as a young boy his fascination with using blood began.
"Every time I got scraped, I would use my own blood since bloodstains are also hard to remove," he told Reuters.
The artist was used to go to the town's health clinic every three months to have his blood extracted in 500 ml bag. He stored it in a cooler for his future studio project.
"My artwork is very important to me because they come from me, it is from my own blood, my DNA is part of it... My philosophy is that life is circular and everything is a circle, so (blood) is a tool that serves as a reminder of where I came from," said Circa.
he have been painted a 4 x 8 ft mural depicting the history of Pantabangan, his hometown. He is also hoping to set a world record for a 328 ft canvas in 2023.
