CLOSING OF NATIONAL MUSEUM OF THE PHILIPPINES FOR THE WEDDING OF DOMINIQUE BARRETTO GETS SOCIAL MEDIA DEBATE

A Twitter post went viral for calling out the leadership of the "National Museum of the Philippines" after it was temporarily closed on Saturday, March 4, 2023 for Dominique Barretto Cojuangco and Michael Hearn's wedding.

"Imagine closing a state museum for a "private" wedding on a Saturday, the peak day of museum visits. I would understand if Monday na sarado talaga siya, pero taumbayan pa talaga ang pinag-adjust?" said in a tweet by @1thFool.

"This is a terrible call for the leadership of the National Museum," it added.

The debate spilled over onto social media about the social media post.

"Hindi naman nag kulang ang NMP sa pag inform na sarado ang Natural History of on that date. And as if naman na all three buildings (Fine Arts, Anthropology, Natural History) ang pinasara. Museum goer can still visit Fine Arts and Anthropology since Natural History is closed," one comment came to the defense of the National Museum leadership.

Another comment clarified the issue, "Sorry but I’m not taking sides. The National Museum is really open to be rented for events. I think it’s on their website. Wanted to rent it for an international event before but the logistics isn’t easy. Transporting high level officials to and from their hotels is risky."

The National Museum posted an announcement through its social media page that the "National Museum of Natural History" will be temporarily closed on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

But, it is said that the "National Museum of Fine Arts and the National Museum of Anthropology will remain open on the same day."

"Regular operations for the National Museum of Natural History will resume the next day on Sunday, March 5, 2023," it added.

Dominique and Michael tied the knot and had a beautiful reception at the National Museum of Natural History in Manila.
