Cybertruck seemingly unscathed in California collision

The highly anticipated Tesla Cybertruck, released just weeks ago, has become the center of attention again, this time for a collision with a 2009 Toyota Corolla.

Photos posted on Reddit by user "boddhya" show the brunt of the damage sustained by the Corolla, driven by a 17-year-old. While the Cybertruck appears largely unharmed from the incident, the angle of the photos makes it difficult to assess its full condition.

The accident occurred on Skyline Boulevard in Palo Alto, California, on December 28th, 2023, at approximately 2:05 PM PST. According to the California Highway Patrol, the Corolla, traveling southbound, veered right, struck an embankment, re-entered the road, crossed the double yellow lines, and collided with the northbound Cybertruck.

Thankfully, the only reported injury was a minor one to the Cybertruck driver, who refused medical attention. Notably, the Tesla was not in autonomous mode at the time of the crash. The weather conditions were reported as cloudy and wet.

While the perspective of the Reddit photos limits our view of the Cybertruck's front, both sides and the rear appear to have escaped significant damage, even with the side-curtain airbags deployed. This suggests the truck's much-discussed exoskeleton might have played a role in minimizing its damage.

However, a comprehensive assessment of the Cybertruck's condition awaits further investigation and clearer visuals. This first reported accident will undoubtedly be scrutinized as we learn more about the circumstances and the durability of the futuristic pickup truck.
