Despite a sluggish start on Thursday, September 19, she carded a bogey-free 67, trailing Ashleigh Buhai by only two shots.
Korda and Leona Maguire, who also shot a 5-under 67, were among the 11 Solheim Cup participants who quickly returned to action at TPC River's Bend. Buhai, a former Women's British Open champion, had a fresh start after a rest period due to injuries. Her impressive 7-under 65, featuring eight birdies, gave her a one-shot lead over Jeeno Thitikul and Yan Liu.
"It just goes to show that rest is crucial," Buhai said. "With some good preparation and practice, I was able to see the results today."
Korda, who went 3-1 in her Solheim Cup matches, appreciated the opportunity for a nap after her early tee time. She expressed her motivation to compete despite the fatigue.
Her bogey-free round boosted her confidence, and she aimed to maintain this momentum for the rest of the tournament. Maguire, who played only two matches in the Solheim Cup, was pleased to have a fresher approach this time around.
Lydia Ko, another Solheim Cup participant, also delivered a strong performance with a 67. She expressed her excitement about her recent achievements, including winning the Olympic gold medal and the Women's British Open. Ko acknowledged the challenge of learning a new course at TPC River's Bend but remained focused on her strategy.
Rose Zhang, a standout performer at the Solheim Cup, struggled on the back nine, finishing with a 73. Esther Henseleit also carded a 74, while the other seven Solheim Cup players posted par or better.
