During a congressional hearing, Rep. Dan Fernandez of Sta. Rosa, Laguna, noticed that Ong's hair appeared to be curled and colored differently than in previous appearances. He inquired about where she had the styling done.
Ong responded that her hair color had remained the same and that the curls were a result of her own DIY braiding. She explained that she had styled her hair herself.
This response follows a previous comment from award-winning filmmaker Erik Matti
who raised questions about Ong's hair, posting a photo on Instagram of her
attending a Senate hearing. He questioned how Ong, detained by the House
for contempt, found time for hairstyling.
House Clarifies: No Hairstylist for Cassandra Ong in Detention
A House of Representatives official has clarified speculation surrounding Cassandra Ong's recent hairstyle. Ms. Ong, a stakeholder in Whirlwind Corporation, appeared before the Senate on Tuesday.
According to House Sergeant-at-Arms ret. Maj. Gen. Napoleon Taas, as relayed by Secretary General Reginald Velasco, Ong received no visits from hairdressers while detained at the House. While the House allows personal care services like haircuts, Ong did not request any.
"Since Ms. Ong's transfer from NBI custody on August 26, 2024, she has only been visited by her legal team and a friend (September 14th) who brought clothing and necessities," stated Taas through Velasco.
"Personal care services require Committee approval, and Ms. Ong hasn't requested a hairdresser," he added.
Ms. Ong was called upon by the Senate regarding illegal activities at a POGO hub in Bamban, Tarlac, linked to dismissed mayor Alice Guo. Ong previously denied friendship with Guo, only acknowledging her brother, Wesley Guo, as an acquaintance.
