Negros Power Commissioned Second Transformer to Stabilize Power Supply in Bacolod

Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power) swiftly responded to the recent power outage in southeastern Bacolod by commissioning a second transformer with a capacity of 18 megavolt amperes (MVA). This followed the activation of a 10 MVA mobile substation to address the issue.

According to Jonathan Cabrera, Negros Power spokesperson, the new transformer at the Alijis substation has been operating smoothly since its installation on Sunday, a day ahead of schedule.

The 18 MVA unit now supports the six feeders of the substation, which collectively require 16.5 megawatts (MW).

The outage on August 21 affected approximately 48,000 consumers in the Alijis, Mansilingan, Felisa, and Handumanan areas due to the failure of the old 30/37 MVA transformer. To restore power, Negros Power deployed a mobile substation from its sister company, MORE Power, and commissioned the new transformer.

As Negros Power prepares to formally take over the operations of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), it plans to present its modernization plan to the city council. Through its joint venture agreement with Ceneco, Negros Power aims to enhance power distribution and customer service to over 220,000 active accounts in Bacolod, Bago, Talisay, Silay, Murcia, and Don Salvador Benedicto.

To achieve this, Negros Power is investing PHP2 billion in a five-year plan to rehabilitate and modernize the electric infrastructure in its franchise area.
