Ateneo de Manila University has once again solidified its position as the Philippines' leading university, securing the top spot in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2025. This marks the fifth time the university has achieved this distinction.
Among Philippine institutions, Ateneo was the sole representative in the prestigious 1001-1200 bracket. The university was evaluated across five key pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry.
"The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is a global recognition of Ateneo de Manila's excellence," said Fr. Roberto Yap SJ, the university's president. "While rankings provide a benchmark for improvement, our core mission of educating and forming minds and hearts for service remains unwavering."
Following Ateneo in the rankings were the University of the Philippines (1201-1500), De La Salle University, Mapúa University, Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology, and the University of Santo Tomas.
The 2025 THE World University Rankings included 2,092 institutions from 115 countries and territories. Oxford University maintained its top position for the ninth consecutive year, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.
