- Actress Judy Ann Santos Takes on Ramsay's Halo-Halo Challenge
Filipino actress and culinary enthusiast Judy Ann Santos had a "surreal" experience on Monday, joining forces with none other than Gordon Ramsay for a live cooking challenge in Pasay City. The event, held at Newport World Resorts, saw Santos and three other participants whip up their own unique takes on the beloved Filipino dessert, halo-halo, in a tense 10-minute showdown.
Ramsay, known for his fiery personality and exacting standards on shows like "Hell's Kitchen" and "MasterChef," brought his signature intensity to the challenge. Santos, who hosted the Filipino "MasterChef" franchise from 2011 to 2013, embraced the pressure, creating a black sesame halo-halo with nata de coco, leche flan, and a medley of other delicious ingredients.
Ramsay, impressed with the unique twist, praised Santos' creation, saying, "It's good... really good. I like that black sesame." Despite the positive feedback, the competition was fierce, and ultimately, chef Danica Lucero from the Center for Culinary Arts Manila emerged victorious.
Even though she didn't win, Santos described the experience as a dream come true. In an Instagram post, she expressed her disbelief and excitement, saying she had to pinch herself to make sure it was real. "Simpleng halo-halo lang naman," she wrote, "but that was the fastest, nerve-wracking 10 minutes of my life! But, it was the best!"
"Hindi ko alam what i did to deserve this.. but, i am so grateful for the experience.. thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone involved in this wonderful experience.." she added.
This culinary encounter highlights Santos' growing passion for food. Beyond her successful acting career, she has ventured into the culinary world with her restaurant Angrydobo and her popular YouTube cooking channel, Judy Ann's Kitchen. Recently, she celebrated another milestone by completing a professional culinary program.
Ramsay, who is in town for various engagements, also owns a branch of his namesake bar and grill restaurant in Pasay City. His visit and the exciting halo-halo challenge have undoubtedly created a buzz among Filipino foodies and fans of both celebrities.
