Suspected drug pushers "Walk of Shame" in Tanuan Batangas gone viral

Manila, Philippines - Eleven suspected drug pushers in Tanauan, Batangas took the "walk of shame" in a Santacruzan theme - like on Monday, May 23 upon the order of Mayor Antonio Halili.

The alleged drug pushers were brought to the Tanauan City Hall grounds to be paraded in the shame campaign. A formal complaint was being drafted against them during the incident.

The Mayor said that the suspects were given warning prior to the incident via mail delivered to their homes. The city mayor also emphasized that the suspects were caught in the act so the Commission on Human Rights(CHR) cannot consider them innocent.

Moreover, Tanauan anti-crime group claimed that they have recovered drug paraphernalia and money during the buy-bus operation. They have evidence such as photos and surveillance video footage against all suspects.

On May 18, seven alleged pushers walk around the town market wearing thesame sign. However, the suspects claim that the charges against them are need to be proven. The incident earned negative to the public as three of the suspects are minors.

CHR director Region 4A and B Jacqueline De Guia described the walk of shame as a form of mental torture.

"We believe in the rule of law and the suspects must be punished for violating the rights of other people.It just has to go through the process," de Guia said.

Recently Cebu City Mayor-elect Tomas Osmena is offering police and residents a reward for killing or wounding criminals.

"The reward is P5,000 for wounding a criminal and P50,000 for a dead criminal," Tomas Osmena said.
