IloIlo City - Iloilo City Mayor Eugene Reyes of Buenavista announced that the Department of Public Works and Highways(DPWH) has already gave a signal for the construction of IloIlo-Guimaras bridge.
Guimaras governor hope that the construction will start as early as 2017 through the help of public-private partnership (PPP) and the national gornment through DPWH. The governor confirmed that national government has allotted an initial budget of PHP150M for the preparation and clearance of the project.
No other details of the bridge were released but DPWH secretary Mark Villar announced that the construction will start soon. Government officials are eyeing Leganes, Iloilo and Buenavista, Guimaras as connecting points.
For decades, officials have been lobbying the national government to construct a series of bridges connecting the three major Visayan islands, spanning approximately 23 kms.
The three-phase project will start from Iloilo to Guimaras. The second and third phases asr the bridges from Guimaras-Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental-Cebu.
