Smoking ban was imposed strictly in Bacolod City by forming a team focusing on the enforcement of anti-smoking ordinance in Bacolod City.
The Anti-smoking Task Force created the action team with the task to apprehend violators and inspect establishments for compliance of the smokinh ban.
Councilor Caesar Distrito, co-chairman of the Anti-Smoking Task Force, said they will follow a two-way approach in addressing the smoking issue.
These include education and information, and strict implementation, which should be done simultaneously, he added. Distrito said members of the action team will be trained on the proper apprehension of violators.
The councilor said the task force also designated enforcers of Bacolod TrafficAuthority Office (BTAO) to strictly enforce the smoking ban in all public utility vehicles.
Distrito said the police will assist in the enforcement and those in the barangays will also be trained to help.
Earlier this week, personnel of BTAO apprehended several passengers at the downtown area for violating the anti-smoking ordinance.
Bacolod has been implementing City Ordinance No. 641, Series of 2013, an ordinance regulating smoking in public places, including public conveyances, and advertisements, promotions and sponsorships of tobacco products.
Violators are fined PHP500 for first offense, PHP1,000 for second offense, and PHP2500 or imprisonment for third offense.
President Rodrigo Duterte's Executive Order 26, which took effect on July 22, provides for the establishment of smoke-free environments in public and enclosed spaces.
