Armed Forces of the Philippines to acquire 4 Israel's Hermes 900 UAV

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to acquire four Elbit Systems Hermes 900 Kochav (Star), an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) under the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Acquisation program Second Phase, this was confirmed by Maxdefense Philippines.

The Hermes 900 is a next-generation Hermes 900 is Israel's most advance UAV system, multi-role medium altitude long endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial system (UAS). Capable of performing missions for area dominance and persistent intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance mission, Elbit said.


The armed force of the Philippines have been challege by Marawi crisis and the AFP has called on the United States  and Australia to provide surveillance and intelligence gathering mission for the Philippine military on ground. The US Navy and Australia deployed P-3C and AP-3C Orions respectively, as well as several RQ-20 Puma small UAVs from the US Special Operations Forces stationed in the Philippines.

One of the US Navy website told that Philippines is not new to drone operations, they operated Boeing Insitu ScanEagle small UAV system for quite some time now. It was learned that AFP is in possession of other UAV systems like the locally made Raptor and Knight Falcon which is used during Zamboanga Crisis as well as the newly delivered RQ-11B Raven small UAVs to the Philippine Marine Corps.

Lately, a photo of an unmanned large unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flying somewhere in Luzon was first posted by pinoy aviators in its Facebook page which draws positive outlook and acceptance to genera public.
