Cebu, Philippines - Atleast one triathlete died after suffering cardiac arrest during the swim leg of the Cobra Ironman 70.3 held on Sunday, August 6, at the Shangri-La's Mactan Resort & Spa, Cebu.
The victim was identified as Eric Nadal Mediavillo, 47 from Laguna, SunStar reported.
Mediavillo was declared dead on arrival at 8:45 am by Dr. Dexter Daquipa of the Mactan Doctors Hospital. This is the second fatality in the Cobra Ironman in Cebu since 2012, when Ramon Igana died during the bike portion of the race.
Meanwhile, for the third consecutive year, Australian Timothy James Reed bagged the Ironman 70.3 Philippines finishing at 3 hours and 54 minutes.
