Among the Arab countries, Saudi Arabia was the only country where women is not allowed to drive or even obtaining drivers license in the kingdom.
It has been reported that the decree has issued to allow women to obtain a driving license and practice the license in the kingdom. Women rights groups had been campaigning for decades for their right to drive.
The move was announced on television and also by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the royal decree mandating the establishment of a high-level committee of involving the ministries of internal affairs, finance,labor and social development. They will be tasked to study the arrangement on how to enforce the new law. The full implementation of the order will be done by June 2018.
As of now the ministerial body will be set up to give advice within 30 days and the royal order will be set to implemented by 24 June 2018.
