Lebron James opened a public school for at-risk kids with free tuition,free meals and bikes

The super star NBA player Lebron James has decided to give back to his hometown by building a public school for at-risk kids in Akron. I Promise School is a joint venture between the Lebron James Family Foundation and the Akron, Ohio Public School system.


According to USA Today, the district identified students who were a year or more behind in reading level and then selected 120 kids for each grade. The school plans to expand to first through eighth grade by 2022.

I promise school, tuition is free for all students, who were randomly selected among all Akron public school students between one to two years behind their peers in reading. Students will get free uniforms, free meals and snacks during the school day, and free transportation to school.


Every kid also will going to have a free bicycle and helmet, as James has said that having access to his own set of wheels gave him a way to escape from dangerous parts of his neighborhood and freedom during his childhood.

ESPN reports that students who graduated from the program will earn free tuition at the University of Akron starting in 2021.

Look at the lobby of the school, it was decorated with 114 pairs of James' sneakers. 
It's no doubt why this guy was blessed and love by many, its because of his generous heart. For those who doesn't know about James, he was born to a single mother who often struggled to maintain a stable life for her son. When he was in 4th grade, James missed 83 days of school as his mother struggled to find a stable job and place for them to live, moving from couch to couch.
