National ID System will be available in Metro Manila and Calabarzon before year-end

President Rodrigo Duterte recently signed into law the Philippine Identification System Act on Monday, August6.

The national identification (ID) card will be available for Metro Manila and Calabarzon (Region IV-A) by year-end, Davao City Representative Nograles said in CNN Philippines. 

Two billion pesos has been allotted for the national ID at the beginning of the year, Nograles added.

Sixteen cities will cover under Metro Manila - Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Pasig, San Juan, Taguig,Valenzuela and Pateros. While, Region IV-A includes provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal and Queon.

The bill seek to create a unified national identification system were a centralized database for vital information on all residents and residents aliens in the Philippines are recorded.  

REQUIREMENT FOR THE APPLICATION OF THE NATIONAL ID SYSTEM:

* The basic document that the person will bring to the registration centers is a birth certificates.

Parents can register their child for a PhilSys Number or PSN as soon as they avail a birth certificate. However, biometric can first be captured when the child is five years old. Biometrics will be taken again when the child reaches the age of 15 to 18 years old.

Under the law, the ID will contain ten pieces of information. This include the holder's full name, sex, date of birth, place of birth, blood type, address, and whether the person is a Filipino or allien.

The registration will be done in PSA offices nationwide and the agency might also tap other government offices and systems, including the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Social Security System (SSS), Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-Ibig, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and the Commission on Elections.
