No Standing Policy For Central Visayas Buses Implemented

This year the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)7 will implement a more stricter 'No Standing Policy' for public transport. If the public utility buses (PUBs) caught allowing passengers to stand inside their vehicles, the operator would pay a penalty of  P5,000 on the first offense and it will increase on the second or third offense.

However, operators are asking the LTFRB to reconsider the implementing rules during the holidays when a greater number of passengers are expected.

Republic Act 4136 or the overloading in public utility vehicles is prohibited since 2005. LTFRB vowed to apprehend bus drivers who violating the policy following to the creation of the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic, along with members of the Land transportation Office (LTO)7 and the highway Patrol group 7.

Violators that are caught will be issued a temporary operator's permit by the LTO and an inspection report summons by the LTFRB, Sunstar reported.

"We cannot compromise it (their safety) as we can't predict accidents. if an accident occurs and overloading is found to be the culprit, the LTFRB will be blamed for allowing these buses to overload," LTFRB7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. told Sunstar.
