US-based online education platform '51Talk' to hire 100,000 home-based Filipino English teachers and earn to more than P1M a year

The online education 51Talk based in New York will be hiring 100,000 home-based Filipino English teachers to teach Chinese students.

"There is a strong demand for online  English lessons for children in China, based on the fact that the household investment in education and English requirements for students have been on the rise,"Jack Huang,51Talk founder told.

"Filipinos are naturally happy, friendly, delightful, and are very suitable for teaching kids," Huang added, saying the Philippines is among the best English-speaking countries in Asia.

51Talks is the best and largest online English education platform in China and publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange (CEO). The country was first introduced in the Philippines in 2012 and it has opened training centers in Bacolod, Baguio,Cavite,Cebu,Davao, and Pampanga, the first online English education provider in the Philippines which helped over 10,000,000 Chinese students.

Huang said that the demand for online English teachers was expected to grow, "report from Chinese Academy of Social Science shows that China has a large English consumer group of 300 million people."

"The English training market is China is as large as $72 billion," he added.

Demand for online foreign teachers had climbed to 500,000, according to him.

"The demand will grow to 100,000 home-based online teachers in the Philippines in the next five years," he added.

"When someone starts out as an English instructor, they are given a one-star rank. After completing a set amount of lessons and in-house training modules, they can move up in rank, all the way to 5-star.

"the best performing teachers can earn more than P1 million (USD$18,821) in a year," Sue Ting said, 51Talk Philippines manager.
