Lovers separated during WWII reunites after 75 years

The 97-year-old KT Robbins was very emotional during a reunion with his long lost French sweetheart, 92, Jeannine Ganaye. "I always loved you. You never got out of my heart," Robbins said. 


In 1944, the 24-year-old American soldier was fell in love with 18-year-old beauty, while stationed in her hometown of Briey in the north eastern part of France. 

There love story starts when Robbins was looking for someone who could wash his clothes. Ganaye's mother accepted, and the lovebirds met for the very first time. Intense feelings blossomed, but Robbin was transferred to the Eastern Front, two months later and left his love, with nothing but a photograph to recall their best moment.

Today, Robbins is a widowed and Ganaye Pierson is also a widowed. Robbins still had a photo of his long lost sweetheart, the only item that could foretell their reunion.

After the WWII in 1945, Robbins returned to America, where he met and married his wife, Lilian while, Peirson, in the absence of her lover's return, married in 1949 and gifted to five children.

During the 75th anniversary of D-Day in France, Robbins was invited to attend and he showed Pierson's photo and told the French journalists that he would like to return to her village. He assumed that Pierson had passed away, adding: 'For sure I won't ever get to see her.'

But the journalists managed to track down Pierson, finding her at a retirement home, about 27 miles from where the two first met. 

Robbins and Pierson met and could not wait to begin the final chapter of their life after 75 years of separation. They embraced filled with joy, and Robbins told his sweetheart that he loved her.
