The Philippine Air Force is expecting 16 units of Sikorsky's S-70i Black Hawk combat helicopters from Lockheed Martin's Polish subsidiary PZL Mielec. The Department of National Defense (DND) signed contract worth USD241.4 million signed last March 2019, and the notice to proceed was provided by DND on April 16, 2019.
The 16 Sikorsky S-70i Black Hawk helicopters were required under the Horizon 2 phase of the revised AFP Modernization Program.
Partial delivery may proceed in batches starting from 3rd quarter of 2020 up to 2021, however Sikorsky may adjust the delivery of the first batch to an earlier date.
The Philippine Air Force is also expecting this year the start of the delivery of six A-29 Super Tucano, a light attack and advanced training aircraft from Brazil.
The aircraft will be deployed for close air support, light attack, surveillance, air-to-air interception, and counter insurgency missions.
