The controversial actor Baron Geisler appealed to the government to renew ABS-CBN franchise. In a video he posted on Facebook page Defend Job Philippines, the "Ang Probinsyano" actor narrated that thousand of people will be affected and feared to lost jobs if the network company will closed.
Geisler appealed to the Congress and President Durterte to renew the franchise by holding a sign written, "LEGISLATIVE FRANCHISE FOR ABS-CBN NOW!#SaveABSCBNworkers."
“Lahat tayo ay umibig, nasaktan, napasaya, napa-iyak ng mga shows ng ABS-CBN. Hindi ito magagawa kung hindi dahil sa mga laborers na ito. Ipaglaban po natin ang karapatan nila. Ipaglaban po natin ang buhay nila. Mahigit 10,000 po ang mawawalan ng trabaho. Isipin niyo po iyon.
“Kung iniisip ng gobyerno na makaganti lang dahil sa mga miscommunications noong 2016. Mag-move forward na po tayo. Let go and forgive and forget. Mga tao pinag-uusapan natin dito. Hindi papel, pami-pamilya, ilang libong pamilya, pagkain sa lamesa. Iyan ang kailangan nila. Iyan ang kailangan ng mga Pilipino.
“Kung talagang nagmamalasakit ang gobyerno sa atin at sa mga laborers na ito. Tulungan niyo naman kami. Hindi kami nagmamakaawa kasi alam namin na karapatan namin na magserbisyo at magtrabaho at kumita para mapasaya ang mga tao at mga taga-gobyerno.
“Lumaki ang ABS-CBN… 65 years niyo na pong kasama [tapos] tatanggalin niyo?” He said.
Geisler even asked public support so that they could continue entertain the people.
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that the renewal of franchise of ABS-CBN lies on the hand of Congress and not to the president.
