Azkals suffered heavy defeat against Syria in World Cup qualifiers

Bacolod, Philippines - Azkals absorb bad luck lost 2-5 against Syria on Thursday, September 5, for the opening of World Cup qualifiers at the Pana-ad Park and Stadium in Bacolod .

Hence, this is the Azkal's biggest defeat by far in their quest to 2022 FIFA World Cup, way back from their agony of 5-1 lost against Uzbekistan. Still they have a chance to grab the three points as they headed to Guam in their match on September 10. 

Javier Patiño set the Azkals a good start with a ball running into the net in the 6th minute. However,  Omar Al Soma of Syria responded with their first goal at 15th-minute, followed by another goal in the 30th minute of the first half.

Determined Syria continued to strike with two successive goals in the 48th and 55th minute in the second half, 4-1. However, minute before the end of the match, Azkals' Mike Ott scored the second goal. But Syria quickly responded with another goal minutes later, 5-2.
