Pope says sorry after slapping a hand of female devotee who grab his arm on New Year's Eve

Even the Pope losses patience and had slapped himself free from the female devotee who grabbed him in St. Peter's Square on Tuesday stroll.

Pope Francis later apologised for hitting the hand of the woman who yanked him toward her as he greeted Catholic faithful on New Year's Eve.

The video of Pope Francis slapping his way free from the clutches of the woman has quickly spread online.

"We lose patience many times," Francis confessed.

"It happens to me too. I apologise for the bad example given yesterday," the head of the Catholic church said before celebrating Mass at the Vatican.

The Pope confessed to losing his patience with the woman Tuesday when he greeted the children before the Nativity scene on Saint Peter's square. On the video, the woman who had crossed herself from behind the barriers had cried out something while pulling the Pope's hand and almost caused him to fall.  

In his impromptu remarks Wednesday, Francis said: "So many times we lose patience. Me, too." He then added: "I say 'excuse me' for the bad example" he gave in Tuesday's incident.

Pope focuses on women in January 1 homily, denounces "all violence against women" as " a profanation of God and calling for them to get more involved in making decisions." 

He added that the "rebirth of humanity began with a woman," but "many times women's bodies are sacrificed on the profane altar of advertisements, of profit, of pornography."
