Bacolod City to suspend graduation rites in All Levels amid COVID-19 threat

Bacolod city Mayor Evelio Leonardia is set to issue an executive order to suspend graduation rites in all schools and in all levels due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak.

After a series of meetings and consultations with schools, health, police, social services, and disaster risk reduction management officials has decided to suspend commencement exercises until further notice. 

“All graduations in all schools and in all levels in Bacolod City will be suspended until further notice,” Leonardia said.

“We will end School Year 2019-2020 earlier so that pupils and students can observe social distancing measures to avoid contamination and spread of the virus,” the mayor added.



According to DepEd, public schools will end their classes on March 20, while private schools in all levels will stop classes on March 27. All the public colleges in Bacolod City will also end classes on March 27.

Also, Day care centers' moving-up ceremonies will also be suspended and their classes will end on March 13, together with Supervised Neighborhood Plays, the mayor said.

As of this writing, the Philippines has recorded 49 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
