Jack Dorsey, a Twitter co-founder in 2006, has pledged to donate a quarter of his fortune to combat coronavirus (COVID-19).
Dorsey, announced on Tuesday that he's created a Start Small LLC that will be funded by $1 billion, he said it's about 28% of his wealth.
Dorsey, 43, who has a net worth of about $3.9 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index would be the biggest single donation by far in fight to coronavirus pandemic.
Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest person, will donate $100 million to Feeding America. Michael and Susan Dell have committed another $100 million to global relief efforts, while the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has pledged a similar amount to develop a vaccine and pay for detection, isolation and treatment efforts.
I’m moving $1B of my Square equity (~28% of my wealth) to #startsmall LLC to fund global COVID-19 relief. After we disarm this pandemic, the focus will shift to girl’s health and education, and UBI. It will operate transparently, all flows tracked here: https://t.co/hVkUczDQmz— jack (@jack) April 7, 2020
This is not the first time Dorsey has announced such huge donation. He also returned back $200 million donations for his employee, shortly after Twitter Inc. laid off roughly 8% of its employees in 2015.
“I’d rather have a smaller part of something big than a bigger part of something small. I’m confident we can make Twitter big!” he tweeted at the time.
