Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian announced his resignation on social media as part of the board of the social news company and asked for a black candidate to replace for his position.
The announcement came after the company faced a backlash this week when an open letter was sent to staff citing the Black Lives Matter protests.
Ohanian, who's a father to two-year-old daughter with tennis star Serena Williams, made a shocking announcement on Twitter. In the announcement, he wrote he is resigning 'for me, for my family, and for my country' so that his seat on the board can be filled by a black candidate and so he can focus on helping to 'curb racial hate' and pledged $1 million to organizations dedicated to ensuring racial equality.

Reddit is global community forum platform which popular to its idea of unrestricted free speech.
"I believe resignation can actually be an act of leadership from people in power right now," the 37-year-old Reddit co-founder said.
"To everyone fighting to fix our broken nation: do not stop."

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman accepted Ohanian's request to replace him with a black candidate.
"We work for this platform because we care deeply about community and belonging," Huffman said.
"But community and belonging are not possible without safety from violence, and now is the time to stand in solidarity with the Black members of our communities."
