"San Miguel has dominated the Philippine beer, soft-drink and food industries since it was formed in the 19th century. During Cojuangco’s second stint as its leader, the company expanded by buying the local Coca-Cola franchise, Australia-based National Foods and other businesses. In 2008, Cojuangco broadened the company’s base by investing in the energy sector, saying there was more growth potential there," the Bloomberg reported.
Cojuangco had kidney transplant in 2013 but also suffered other illnesses. dzRH radio reported he died of lung cancer. He was married to Soledad "Gretchen"Oppen Cojuangco of Negros Occidental, with whom he had 4 children. His son Charlie is currently a representative of Tarlac's 1st District.
Danding was also a former governor of Tarlac in the late 1960s and ambassador to the United States.
He ran for president in 1992 but lost to Fidel Ramos.
