SSS members who lost jobs can get up to P20,000 cash benefits

Unemployment rate jumps high as many businesses decided to close due to the devastation wrought by the COVID-19 pandemic. To help those who have lost their source of income, Social Security System (SSS) announced that contributing members can get as much as P20,000 in cash benefit.

In an interview with SSS Public Affairs and Special Events Division head Fernando Nicolas on GMA Unang Hirit, he said that member only needs to present a certification of "involuntary separation" from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and a savings account in order to avail the assistance.

“Up to 20,000 o katumbas po ito ng one month salary credit. Halimbawa, ang isang miyembro ay naghuhulog ng para sa P20,000 monthly salary credit, makakakuha po siya ng ganung halaga,” he said in an interview on GMA Network’s Unang Hirit.

“Ang kailangan lang nilang i-present ay ‘yung certification galing sa DOLE na sila ay involuntarily separated. Tapos i-present nila ‘yung savings account kung saan natin ide-deposit,” he added.

The amount will be deposited to the savings account submitted within five days in two payouts within two months.

Even if they have already received cash aid from the government, still they are entitled to this SSS benefit.

Returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) can also apply but will have to get their certification from the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) instead of DOLE.

However, SSS member who are registered as self-employed are not qualified to avail the unemployment benefit.
