French man 'paedophile' to face firing squad in Indonesia after allegedly molesting hundreds of kids

A French man could face execution through a firing squad in Indonesia after being accused of molesting more than 300 children and beating those who have refused to have sex with him, according to reports.

Francois Camille Abello, 65, was arrested by police last month at a hotel in Indonesia, where two underaged girls where found in his room.

Under the Indonesia's child protection laws, Abello could face execution by firing squad or life in prison if convicted on the raft of charges - including accusations that he filmed the illicit encounters.

Authorities, found videos on Abello's laptop that showed him performing illegal sex acts with hundreds of minors.

The tourist pensioner had entered the country several times over the past five years, according to reports.

"He would approach children and lure them by offering them work as models," Jakarta police chief Nana Sudjana told local media.

"The ones who agreed to have sex with him would get paid between 250,000 and one million rupiah (S$24 -S$96). Those who didn't want to have sex would be beaten, slapped and kicked by the suspect," he added.

Police said they believed Camille had been molesting Indonesian children for years and that there may be more victims.

As many as 70,000 children are victims of sexual exploitation annually in Indonesia, according to global anti-trafficking network ECPAT International.
