Thailand's newspaper headline calling Philippines 'Land of COVID-19' sparks outrage

 A headline from local newspaper in Thailand labeling the Philippines as the 'Land of COVID-19' has captured a lot of  heated comments in social media.


The Philippine Embassy in Thailand expressed dissatisfaction over Thai Rath newspaper's headline. 



The Philippine Embassy has written the editor in chief of Thai Rath concerning the newspaper's headline yesterday.For the Filipino community's information.

“The characterization is inappropriate, insensitive and unhelpful at a time when all of us, brothers and sisters in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), are closely cooperating to deal with the new and unforeseen challenges brought about by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic,” Consul General Val Simon Roque said in a written letter.



The Thai headline comes after a report of the arrival of 165 Filipino teachers working in Thailand while the country continues to battle the pandemic.. Thailand is one of the countries in South Asia that claimed to have contained COVID-19.


Meanwhile, Malacañang has called for understanding over the Thai newspaper's headline.
