Viral runaway QC ostrich ended up in the pan as delicious 'adobo'

One of the two ostriches that went viral after running loose in Quezon city allegedly died of stress, the owner's lawyer said.

Atty. Charlie Pascual told Manila Bulletin that the owner Jonathan Cruz has instructed his caretakers to bury the dead bird, but later they learned that it ended up into a delicious meal.

According to reports, those birds was bought from an ostrich farm in Misamis Oriental which was scheduled to be transferred in Nueva Ecija for its new home, but it was hold up by lockdown.

The other ostrich was turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) while the investigation for the legality of keeping the ostriches is on going.

Currently, farming and meat consumption of ostrich are allowed under the existing laws. But DENR urged that an ostrich is not a domesticated animal and is still covered by Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001.
