Japanese actress Ashina Sei was discovered dead in her Tokyo apartment on Monday. Authorities confirmed that she died by suicide. Ashina was 36.
She was starred in TBS' 2002 drama The Tail of Happiness. In 2007, she was cast as the Japanese lead in François Girard’s Silk, a historical drama starring Michael Pitt and Keira Knightley as a 19th century French silkworm smuggler and his wife who journey to Japan.
She was also seen in various TV and movie projects in the past including her role in the 2010 Kazuya Konaka drama “Nanase: The Psychic Wanderers” and a continuing role from 2017 to this year in the popular TV Asahi series “Aibo: Tokyo Detective Duo,” whose 19th season will air from October. She also worked as a voice actor, including the lead role of Emily Thorne in the 2011 US series “Revenge.”
