French teacher full of tattoo loses kindergarten job

Sylvain Helaine, is a kindergarten teacher who claimed he was prevented from teaching due to his tattoos that may have frightened some of his students.

The 35-year-old Helaine from Paris, France was covered with ink from head to toe and whites of his eyes turned black through surgery. Docteur Elementary School decided to move him to other class and prevent him from teaching children under six after the parents of a three-year-old complained his appearance caused their child to have nightmares.

"I think the decision they took was quite sad," Helaine told Reuters.

Helaine, who is a model and performer and often goes by the name 'Freaky Hoody', told BFMTV.

"The Inspection Académique no longer wanted me to go work in kindergarten to avoid receiving letters of complaint," he said.

"They didn't want to rock the boat, and wanted to avoid parents from complaining about my appearance," he said in an interview.

Helaine said he began getting tattoos at the age of 27. He has regularly added to his body art since the "crisis." "Getting tattoos is my passion," he explained.

One of his pupils admitted, at first he was "scared" because of his tattooed eyes. "Now I'm not afraid, he's even almost my favorite teacher."

Helaine hopes his students will learn to be more open minded of people who are different than others.
