The rescuers believed that Toro has been chained to the fence his entire life at an abandoned house. After being rescued he was then brought to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter.

At first, Toro seemed to be scared of people at the shelter, but later started to realize and appreciate the care given to him.

“When he first came in, he was very nervous and shut down,” Melissa Fogarty, kennel and placement supervisor at Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, told The Dodo.

Soon, he was giving every people he meet lots of hugs!

"Every time he comes out of the kennel, his first reaction is to hug the person walking him, and anyone, really, he comes in contact with," it added.

"I was probably one of the first people to take him out for an actual socialized walk when he came in,” Fogarty said. “The hugging happened probably within 15 minutes of having him out loose in our side play yard. He just kind of crawled up to me, climbed on my lap, and pressed himself against my chest … from there it grew and now he hugs all his friends here."

The shelter decided to give Toro to an adult-only home where he can continue his basic training on basic house rules.

Toro, a pitbull, who hasn't been adopted yet since he was rescued  is now looking for the perfect family for him.
