Cebu resort owner gets flak for comments about mom's review: "Not an ideal place for a child with special needs"

Many netizens took to social media to defend the mother and her son with a special needs over a remarks made by Cebu resort owner, in response to her review over the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa.

The controversy started when a mother of six-year-old child with autism shared her experienced in a travel site about a resort in Cebu, which she described "Not  an ideal place for a child with special needs."

A guest identified as Mai Pages, who left a negative review of the resort on Trip Advisor says,  her plan to swim the whole morning for his child with special needs came to a halt after she was repeatedly told by the lifeguards stationed near the pool to control the noise of her son.

"It could've been the perfect getaway for Fin, my child with special needs. When something excites him or when he is happy, he makes it known by squealing with delight. Fin is happy! That is what I always tell him every time he does that," Mai said.

"I though that was okay until we were told afar (A lifeguard). As a mother, your initial action would be directed to your child. So I told him not to squeal because it wasn't allowed," she continued.

At one point, she even tried hushing Fin and cover his mouth just to control his voice. But then she realized that was wrong after all.

Mai, who felt discriminated over the incident said: "I will never consider staying here ever again. No luxury of this proportion can make this experience okay because that is not what we need. We need a friendly and empathetic environment for kids and families with special needs."

After Mai's shared experienced went viral online with a quite number of engagement, Manny Gonzales, the resort's resident stakeholder responded negatively to Mai's review on Trip Advisor comment section.

In a now edited post, Gonzalez who used the account of the resort's general manager, Efren Belarmino, accused Mai of "most likely deliberately lying" since "uncontrolled shouting is not a symptom of autism."

"Google 'Autism' and verify this for yourself," read the reply. "Therefore this parent is most likely deliberately lying, or has been given an incorrect diagnosis of autism, when what the child more likely has is a lack of discipline due to simple parental neglect."

"What the child most likely has is a lack of discipline due to simple parental neglect. If their parents would pay attention to them and would refrain from screaming at each other, there would be no need for the child to scream. In our experience, one word from a responsible parent is enough to make a child quiet down," Gonzalez wrote.

Gonzalez reply has since been deleted.

His remarks has since attracting criticisms online with many netizens came to Mai's defense.
