Alex Eala and Russian partner Selekhmeteva win French Open girls double championships

Filipino tennis player Alex Eala and her Russian partner Oksana Selekhmeteva has captured the 2021 French Open girls doubles championship. They defeated the tandem of Russia's Maria Bondarenko and Hungary's Amarissa Kiara Toth, 6-0, 7-5 in the semifinals on  Friday night in Paris, France.





This is the 16-year-old Eala's second Grand Slam title after her breakthrough win in the 2020 Australian Open girls doubles tournament with Indonesian partner Priska Nugroho. But it was the second trophy for Eala-Selekhmeteva tandem, who debuted at the W25 Platja D' Aro meet in Spain last May 22.





The duo Eala-Selekhmeteva established dominance at the start of the first set in a surprising sweep of their opponents with the first frame that finished just 20 minutes.




In 2020, Eala thanked Filipino fans to their support in her campaign in the Roland Garros tournament who was the first Filipino in 35 years after Felix Barrientos to nail a junior Grand Slam singles.
