Online petition launch to revoke Novel Prize for Maria Ressa

While the world honor Maria Ressa with the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize award, still there are some who signed an online petition to revoke the decision on awarding Rappler's founder.

The petition was launched on Change.org online platform which says: "Maria Ressa may be one of the recipients of this year's Nobel Prize for Peace due to her bravery in 'defending press freedom', yet in the Philippines, she is known to peddle fake news and that her 'news' outlet is funded by Omidyar, a foreigner, which is in direct violation of the constitution."

"Majority of the Filipino people do not celebrate her award because we know better who she is and what she is doing here.

"So we ask the Nobel Committee to nullify her award and investigate more of what she's doing here," the petition read.

As of the press time, the petition has garnered more than 51,000 signatures out of its 75,000 target.

Maria Ressa, is one of two journalists to have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2021, along with Russian Editor Dmitry Muratov.
