6-YEAR-OLD GIRL MISSING FOR TWO YEARS FOUND ALIVE UNDER THE STAIRS

No one would thought that a 4-year-old girl who went missing since 2019 was found alive in a small town in New York state.

Paislee Shultis was discovered by police in a dark, wet space under the staircase to the basement of a house with her biological mother, Kimberly Cooper. She was reported missing in 2019 with officers at the time suspecting her biological parents, Kimberly and Kirk, of kidnapping her after losing custody.

Following a report the girl was discovered over 150 miles (240 km) from where she first disappeared, through a search warrant police check a house in the town of Spenser, New York.

"Over an hour into the search of the residence, the child was located secreted in a makeshift room, under a closed staircase leading to a basement of the residence," a police statement read.

Added that "upon removing the step boards, the child and her abductor, Kimberly Cooper Shultis were found hiding in the dark and wet enclosure."

The mystery of Paislee's whereabouts was solved but investigators were left baffled as to how the girl's abductors had managed to hide her for so long.

"We'd been at the home...almost a dozen times over a two-year period to follow up on leads," police chief Joseph Sinagra told CNN.

The girl is in good health and there is no evidence of abuse, local news outlet CBS2 said. She requested police to buy her a McDonald's Happy Meal after being rescued.
