THE MANILA SOLAR CITY PROJECT IS FINALLY A GO

The Manila Solar City Project involves the reclamation of 148 hectares beside the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in the Manila Bay area. The project is led by Manila Goldcoast Development Corporation, part of the Solar Group of Companies owned by the Tieng family.

In the planned Manila Solar City, Manila Goldcoast has envisioned a mixed-use township development. The project has been stalled several times ever since it was first proposed back in 1991, including the 1993 ordinance that banned all reclamation activities in Manila Bay.

MGDC Vice Pres. & Treasurer Mr. William Tieng, MGDC President Mr. Wilson Tieng, Jan De Nul Project Manager Mr. Tom Van Slambrouck, and Jan De Nul Business Development Manager Mr. Emiel Cornelis sign an agreement to begin the Manila Solar City reclamation project.

The reclaimed area will have a frontage of 635 meters parallel to Roxas Boulevard, and will occupy less than 0.082 percent of the bay's 1,800-square-kilometer surface area. Its boundary will be up to the Ospital ng Maynila, a full kilometer from the US Embassy.

The PRA, which is overseen  by the Office of the President, issued on feb. 22 a notice to mobilize and a notice to commence actual reclamation works to the consortium of Manila Goldcoast and the City of Manila.
