WHEN SANDRO MARCOS MEET ROWENA GUANZON IN MAKATI

It was a surreal moment when former Commissioner on Elections (Comelec) Rowena Guanzon met incoming Ilocos Norte 1st District Representative Sandro Marcos on Saturday, May 14, 2022 in Makati.

The by chance face-to-face encounter happened during the meeting of party-list lawmakers who have expressed support for the speakership of reelected Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

A good gesture was seen as Sandro, son of presumptive president Ferdinand Marcos Jr., approached Guanzon's table and gave her a hand shake. Guanzon is a known critic of the Marcoses.

Before her retirement, Guanzon said Marcos Jr. should be disqualified to run for president. She also revealed she voted  to disqualify Marcos Jr. in the May elections on the ground that he committed moral turpitude for the non-payment of his income tax returns when she was still Ilocos Norte governor.

In an interview, Guanzon said she was invited by the Partylist Coalition to attend the lunch meeting. Guanzon is the incoming representative in Congress of P3PWD party-list group.

When asked about her interaction with Marcos, "we are all well-educated people, we come from very good families," said Guanzon.

"We should have the interest of the country and the nation.. above all," She added.
